Last Thursday was Sydney Ellen's NICU reunion at Arlington Memorial Hospital. I was excited about this because we missed it last year. I so enjoy going and seeing her nurses and doctors...although, one of them didn't remember Sydney. I thought to myself..."You were the one that came in to the room the night she was born and told us she had less than a 10% chance of making it through her first night and the one in the little room the morning we transferred to Cooks telling me she wasn't going to make it!!! How can you NOT remember HER and her amazing story...OF ALL KIDS!!!!" Of course, part of that thought was just me being her mom. I know they have tons of kids that they see every year and that was six years ago...but, I have a hard time wondering how anyone can forget such an unforgettable kid!
We had a pretty good time. We ate cake and played games and saw the doctor that DOES remember her. I so enjoy getting a nod from him when we go to these things. He always tells me how wonderful she looks and he ALWAYS remembers her name. The nurses are wonderful about that too. I didn't see a single one of them that we knew that didn't remember Sydney Ellen. Our favorite nurse was there too. I was happy for that and she even gave Sydney a special treat before we left!
I love those people, whether they all remember us or not. It takes special men and women to do the jobs that they do and I will not forget a single one of them as long as I live. Here are a few 'before and after' pictures of my little Sydweena!
