Six Flags

Yesterday we went to Six Flags. One of my favorite things to do...to this very day. I don't know why...I guess I'm just a huge kid at heart. It's one of those places that holds tons of memories for me. Mostly good, a couple bad and maybe even an embarrassing one or two. It's one of those places that I hope my children can grow up enjoying. The only thing is, they won't be enjoying it without the company of their dear old mom or dad til they're married. I was a sneaky little stinker back in my youth, which means I know most of the tricks and my three girls will get away with as few of them as possible. No sneaking out there to meet boys...none of that!

Ok, I realize I'm living in a dream world and I couldn't possibly keep them from doing every little thing that I did, but I'm sure going to do my best to try! I'm cool though...they can still have fun going out there with their boyfriends. They'll just have to have fun with their mom tailing behind a safe distance.

Alright...enough going on about what a tyrant I'll be when they're older. I'm sure my bark will be worse than my bite!

With the exception of a little sibling rivalry, the day went rather well. It was crowded, but not too crowded and the girls, along with Eric and myself had a great time! We went ahead and got our passes for 2009, so I'm sure we'll have plenty of fun filled days out there!

Below are a few pics for your viewing pleasure...The first one is of Sydney and Dan Graves, a long time family friend. He and his wife, Rita, have worked out at Six Flags for as long as I can remember. He's dressed up as Grandpa Munster. Sydney was cool with it...Graci Lou, not so much. She wouldn't even stand by him for a picture!

NICU Reunion

Last Thursday was Sydney Ellen's NICU reunion at Arlington Memorial Hospital. I was excited about this because we missed it last year. I so enjoy going and seeing her nurses and doctors...although, one of them didn't remember Sydney. I thought to myself..."You were the one that came in to the room the night she was born and told us she had less than a 10% chance of making it through her first night and the one in the little room the morning we transferred to Cooks telling me she wasn't going to make it!!! How can you NOT remember HER and her amazing story...OF ALL KIDS!!!!" Of course, part of that thought was just me being her mom. I know they have tons of kids that they see every year and that was six years ago...but, I have a hard time wondering how anyone can forget such an unforgettable kid!

We had a pretty good time. We ate cake and played games and saw the doctor that DOES remember her. I so enjoy getting a nod from him when we go to these things. He always tells me how wonderful she looks and he ALWAYS remembers her name. The nurses are wonderful about that too. I didn't see a single one of them that we knew that didn't remember Sydney Ellen. Our favorite nurse was there too. I was happy for that and she even gave Sydney a special treat before we left!

I love those people, whether they all remember us or not. It takes special men and women to do the jobs that they do and I will not forget a single one of them as long as I live. Here are a few 'before and after' pictures of my little Sydweena!

Uneventful

Today was pretty uneventful. I got a little done around here, but not nearly as much as I would have liked to have gotten done. I fear my painting of my formal rooms will have to be put off until another time. I was going to start tomorrow, but we got nothing moved this evening because of some company that we had and I got nothing taped off today like I would have liked either. Oh well. Hopefully I can get some of that done tomorrow and can paint the next day. That also is a problem though...tomorrow is the only day the rest of the week that I'll be here by myself. I can see it now. I put paint on the walls on and before I know it, little hand prints in the shade of Pismo Dunes are all over the house! That would be terrific! NOT! Maybe I'll tape everything up over the next few days and paint while they're gone on Monday. Yeah...that's probably what I'll do. *sigh*

In more interesting news...I've got a cake due next weekend for a two year old's birthday party. It's theme is Mickey Mouse Club House and promises to be very cute! And...speaking of cakes, here are a few pictures of some of mine for your viewing pleasure! They are two of my class cakes, a baby shower cake and a birthday cake!

A busy day...

Well, today was fairly busy for me. I'm newly free on Mondays and Wednesdays for five hours each day so I try to cram as much in to those ten hours a week that I possibly can. So...today, I got up around 6, got Sydney fed and ready for school, got the other two girls up and presentable to take Big Sis to school and headed out. After dropping off Sydweena, we ran back to the house, finished getting them ready for Preschool and then headed out again! By now, I'm already a little tired, but I press on.

After running back home and grabbing a check, I run to the bank, then to Chick-Fil-A, and then off to get Holly to do a little shopping. Cake shopping. I'm doing a wedding cake in October that I need new pans for, so we set out to Balch Springs of all places to go to a specific place and I get my pans! After finishing, we have some extra time. What do girls do when they have extra time? Do we go to the mall? No. Do we go get our nails done? Nope. Do we go get a much needed massage? Not no, but heck no! We go to HOME DEPOT! I got paint, brushes, pans, rollers, a ceiling fan for Graci Lou's room, tape, a little this, a little that. Oh, and Chalkboard paint! I almost forgot about that! I told Holly that it felt good being a girl, coming out of Home Depot with two carts full of stuff. Makes me feel like I've accomplished something! Here's Graci's new fan!

After my outing, I went and picked up my babies and got the two oldest ready for their gym class, sent them packing with their daddy and made dinner. When they got home, we sat down to another disappointing new recipe, had bath time, got the girls in bed and we're now relaxing watching the Cowboys game!

Now, on to tomorrow. My goal for tomorrow is to have every common area of my house cleaned up and our bedroom. I plan on ordering new bedding for us soon and want it to be as clean as possible when I finally get the 'Big Girl Room' of my dreams! The furniture is there and the walls are painted, but I have crappy bedding on my beautiful bed. I want a beautiful bedspread, quilt or comforter and pillows for days! Ahhh...I can't wait! Maybe it'll be something like this...

Or this...

Possibly this?
Oooo...or this...

Hmmm...which one will it be?

Behavior Issues and Streaking

Hmm...I'm struggling with what to write. That's pretty bad, considering this is only my second post.

I think I'll start with behavior. We're kind of struggling with that in Kindergarten. Sydney was in the PPCD class at Dickinson the last two years. Not one time did she come home with a negative mark in her folder. This year has been a much different story. We've been in school three weeks now, and she's come home twice having had to sign the 'behavior book.' Well, I say sign. She's probably made her mark with an X or something...since she can't write her name! Her teacher believes that the behavior is because of frustration and I agree with her 100%. Sydney gets frustrated easily when she can't do things right. Her motor skills are not wonderful at this point and it's hard for her to do some of the easiest things. She's getting better though and with the help of her OT, I'm sure she'll be fine this year. I just hate seeing her getting in trouble when she's never been in trouble there before, and even more than that, I hate that she's struggling in any way! I want for things to be easy as pie for her! I know that's an unrealistic thing and that things aren't always easy, but I want them to be. I don't want her struggling at all after all she's been through in her young life!

Lets see...what's next. How about the fact that my youngest child won't keep her pants on. There's a change in direction for you. Audrey is two and just now showing signs that she's probably on her way to beginning potty training. What she does, is if she's teetee'd in her diaper, she'll strip it off as soon as she's done and either leaves it where she took it off, or brings it to me if Graci has tattled on her. Four or five times a day Graci will run out yelling, "Audrey don't got no pants on!!" She's very proud of this act. Like it's something that I've taught her and she's finally mastered it and is going to keep doing it until something new comes along. Hopefully something new will come along very soon. Lets just hope that new thing is no making a mess on the carpet once the diaper is off!

I should probably stop here. My three year old keeps asking me if it's time for her to get on the computer. I figure since she's more advanced on it than I am, I'll let her play for a while.

All about the icing...

Well...like so many others, I thought I'd try my hand at blogging. I'm not the most eloquent when it comes to writing, but hey...I'll give it a try. This will be a place where I'll share pictures of the family (and my cakes!) and write about the day to day happenings of the Hansen house! To sum it up...this blog will be all about the Icing On My Cake! Everything in life that makes me and my family happy!
